Highlands Regional Medical Center is located at the heart of Highlands County in Sebring at the intersection of US Hwy 27 and Highlands Avenue. The 126-bed general, acute care community hospital has recently undergone many positive changes. State-of-the-art equipment has been installed, services have been expanded, a sparkling new Out-Patient Surgery Center has been added, and the Emergency Room has been entirely renovated. Both facilities have 24 hour Emergency Rooms staffed by highly trained technicians and physicians. Lake Bonnet Village has a small lending Library consisting of books and VHS tapes located at the West Clubhouse. The Avon Park Library, a part of a county-wide system, offers more than 30,000 volumes, including audio and video tapes, large print books and a genealogy reference collection. The Learning Resource Center, a part of SFCC, has more than 41,000 books, 100 journals and 14 national computer data bases. Residents are allowed access to the Center for $5.00 per year. Library cards are free to residents but visitors can obtain them for $20.00 per year, giving them access to the Internet, current periodicals, ability to obtain gift cards and check out books, videos, DVDs and tapes. Two major hospitals serve residents. Florida Hospital Heartland Division opened a new state-of-the-art facility in the fall of 1997 at the corner of US Hwy 27 and Sun 'n Lake Blvd., just south of Avon Park. All of the 111 beds in the facility are in private rooms. Florida Hospital Heartland also houses the area's largest hospital based laboratory and radiology services plus comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities.
Many friendships, golf foursomes, bridge tables, dinner groups and religious study groups are an outgrowth of shared faith and experiences. In Lake Bonnet Village or the Avon Park/Sebring areas, you will find a warm and open invitation to be a part of such groups as may fit your personal beliefs and needs. Lake Bonnet Village offers non-denominational services during the winter months. A synagogue and churches of many faiths are represented in and around the area. Most have programs for senior citizens as well as for the entire family. What a wonderful way for newcomers to meet new people and develop a support network of people from like faith!
